50 Cent on Nas' Nigger: 'Nas sucks. That's a stupid name.'

On Sunday in New Jersey, while on the set of his video for “I’ll Still Kill,” 50 Cent expressed some strong opinions about Nas’ album title.

“Nas sucks,” 50 scoffed. “It’s nonsense, man. That’s a stupid name. It doesn’t make sense. Why would you title it that?”

Nas is basically taking power AWAY from the word....and this is a concept that is obviously way over 50's head. You are talking about a guy who makes preschool style rap lyrics (i.e. "up and down round and round", Magic Stick, etc.) how can you expect him to understand the prolific mentality that Nas has? He is not progressive enough to understand....Nas is basically saying a Word should not have power over anyone...its time we empower ourselves over this word..seriously its Just a WORD..that is the message Nas is sending...but people are just so limited in their thinking....I hope Nas gets through to the ones who need it most.

Nas is a genius for titling his Album. Who has ever done this in history? No one!! thats why its gonna sell sky high, because people are gonna be like" damn, what the hell does he have to say on this album?" I think its a great marketing ploy if you ask me. Any successful man in business knows that if you title something outrageous its going to work very well. If you cant see that, than your too caught up in the word its self. The only way it can be used poorly is from a white upper class person using the word to racially put down a African American. Todays day an age people used the word jokingly to a friend or a sibling. Anyone who pays attention to hip-hop music knows that 50 is about making money and Nas is about making statements. Regardless of how we feel about how 50 feels, he's free to feel that way, and it isn't going to affect Nas one way or another. It's about time someone leads the way in fighting the relevance of the word NIGGER instead of hiding from it. Maybe corporate america will be happier if he names his future album FUCK.

If anyone reading this has an opinion on this matter, it is relevant. Luckily, most of the commentaries are pro Nas, which actually gives me some hope, albeit slight, that our current society (mainly the hip-hop society) is going in the right direction. One would not know this from the videos played on BET or MTV (on the rare occasion that MTV actually shows videos--they are ridiculous). Nas has always had something to say, with lyrics neither dumbed down nor ignorant. 50 had one, ok, two good songs: His first hit, the club banger, was exactly that--a club banger. "Go shorty, it's your birthday. We goin' to party like it's your birthday"--No intelligent or interesting points in the song. It had a great beat that made people want to get up off their asses, but that is the only relevance. The other good track he came out with was years ago on the "In Too Deep" soundtrack. It's called "How To Rob" and it has very clever rhymes with a not-so-bad-delivery. Anything 50 has released since has been either extremely terrible, or just plain bad.
50 could learn a lot from Nas if would only pay attention. He seems to be trying to learn to produce in a similar style as Dre or Em, and this is probably great career move, since he has nothing else to offer. Nas is trying to "take the sting" out of the word "Nigger." The fact that people are getting so upset about it is exactly what Nas is talking about. The word is a word that not only controls people in the language that is being spoken, but is a term used as endearment (that's my nigga) or used as hate (he's a nigger). Note the ending-a vs. r. The current state of hip hop follows the lame rules that if a word is improperly spelled on purpose, or used in a "cool" way, then it is ok, to use by the hip hop community i.e. "nigga"
I feel sorry for most of you writing in to this page who probably have a legitimate and valid reason for discussing Nas vs. 50, but are too "gangsta" to try and write as if you actually know how to read and write, or the people that are intelligent, but feel they must adhere to the said rules of hip hop and write ignorantly, because "that's how people talk who listen to hip hop." It is this mentality that causes ALL of the problems associated with minorities and hip hop. Please get your act together and support artists like Nas.

50 Cent came up off the glamorization american society has of gangsters and gangster life. Real gangsters don't have to talk about how they will shoot someone ever other verse. They will just do it, real gangsters don't want to be known as gangsters. They keep low profile away from the FEDS eye. So hmmm is 50 a REAL gangster??

I'm not sure about anyone else but if a man who "claims" to be from the streets or gangster gets a restraining order against another man is permanently discredited and your ghetto pass revoked for life!!
