Four local guys are gearing up to travel the country for their photo book of people who have tattoos of the logo of legendary hardcore punk band Black Flag.

Stewart Dean Ebersole, who played in Railhed and now works for the Department of Recreation, is the chief architect and writer of the book. Ebersole, 42, says the idea came about as a joke when he and a few friends realized that most of the Black Flag tattoos they saw, including their own, looked pretty lousy. Matthew Smith, formerly of the band Rain on the Parade, is handling layout and design,; Todd Barmann is editor, and Jared Castaldi is taking the photos.

Stewart here. As I write this memo to you I just want to let you know that we are moving forward with plans to tour the US and Canada later this year to collect photos and interviews for the book. If you live in some remote outpost of the US or Canada, or know people who do, and you/they have the bars, own a tattoo shop, or have some related connection, please contact us and help us set up shop in your/their town.

We recently interviewed Dez Cadena (BF’s thrid singer, and second guitarist from 81–83) and have contacted many other bandmates who are interested in participating, so that side of the project is moving along as well.

Who I’d like to meet:
People with Black Flag tattoos (send us your pics) and anyone interested in reading and/or seeing this project evolve.

Thanks to Joe Warminsky.
