Mark your calendar: While an official announcement is still forthcoming, Coachella promoters Goldenvoice have begun booking artists for next year’s festival, which has been moved up two weeks from its regular last weekend of April slot to April 17–19, 2009.

UPDATE: A Coachella spokeslady insists the 2009 festival dates remain unconfirmed.

Also, Stagecoach going back to two days (via Desert Sun):

The Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio will return to being a two-day festival in 2009 after breaking attendance records over three days in May.

Stagecoach founder Paul Tollett of the Los Angeles-based Goldenvoice promoters said the reduction in size of what was becoming one of the most significant country music festivals in the nation had nothing to do with the declining economy.

“It’s a two-day festival,” Tollett said. “Last year The Eagles popped up, so that was just an anomaly. California’s coolest band pops up and you grab it.”

Dates for the third annual festival haven’t been announced, but it’s traditionally held around the first weekend in May, one week after the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

Stagecoach added to its unique diversity last year when Goldenvoice built a whole roots-rock day around The Eagles with John Fogerty, Glen Campbell, Shelby Lynne and Mike Ness.

Tollett said there will be more country rock in 2009.

no headliners have booked yet, but radiohead is close to signing. david bowie has received a generous offer, which will go to paul mccartney if rejected, then to u2, then to the who. outkast, nine inch nails, no doubt, or coldplay are most desired to headline the first night.

a major reunion that will flatten many people with excitement will happen, and to make up for dropping out in the past: my bloody valentine.

nice job summarizing every lineup rumor for coachella in the last decade.

That was a really bad attempt of pretending to be me.
