Coldplay, the band Sir Paul McCartney once called “part of the furniture” at EMI, are rumoured to be leaving the record label following the release of their next album.

According to tabloid reports, the band could make forthcoming album Prospekt their last new material for EMI by fulfilling their five-album deal with a Best Of collection next year.

The Daily Star quotes an unnamed source as saying: “There’s so much uncertainty in the record industry right now. The boys don’t necessarily need a label anymore.”
