Taliban Islamist insurgents beheaded 17 civilians, including two women, who were holding a party with music in a southern Afghanistan village, officials said Monday.
“I can confirm that this is the work of the Taliban,” the Helmand provincial governor’s spokesman Daud Ahmadi told AFP, referring to the hardliners notorious during their rule for public executions and the suppression of music and parties.
… on Saturday night, 17 civilians, two of them women, were killed in Kajaki area of Helmand by Taliban insurgents, according to provincial officials. Most of the victims were beheaded, they said.
The officials said an investigation was launched to determine the reason for the killings. Some reports said the deaths were linked to mixed-gender dancing in a house and suspicion of indulgence in what the Taliban views as immoral acts.
