East Bay Express:

“I didn’t like it that people were saying they couldn’t listen to Elliott’s music because it made them too sad,” de Wilde says from her home in Los Angeles, “and I just felt like if I could do anything to remind people of the other parts of his life — not to put in soft focus any of the tragedy and the self-destructive choices — but to remind people of the whole human being.”

She pauses, then continues. “There’s a lot of artists who have dark histories, and there’s a lot of artists who have beautiful lives, and I think they all have a little bit of both, and they shouldn’t all be remembered in one way.”

Queen’s Nail Annex:

Queens Nails Annex, in conjunction with Noise Pop , is pleased to present Pictures of Me, an exhibition of photographs taken by Autumn de Wilde of the late American musician Elliott Smith.

Smith’s intensely personal music has left a deep mark on a generation of fans and musicians. Autumn de Wilde worked closely with Smith as a friend and photographer for several years before the singer’s untimely death. This showcase of startling and rare images captures an intimate and unseen side of his personality.

Every year, Noise Pop takes over the best-loved venues in San Francisco for six nights to host unforgettable performances by nationally-known indie rock, electronic, punk and cutting edge musical artists teamed up with the best local bands, transforming the city into an almost week-long celebration of the finest that the underground and not-so-underground has to offer. Pictures of Me will have it’s opening on Thursday, February 28th, from 7 – 11 pm. The exhibition will be open from Friday the 29th until Sunday March 2nd, from 12 – 6 pm.
