XFM:

The fans are upset at the way the newspaper has called My Chemical Romance a “suicide cult” band in relation to the its coverage of the suicide of 13-year-old emo fan Hannah Bond.

To date, 300 fans have pledged their support and registered their displeasure with their portrayal at the British press. A statement from march organisers MCR Buzznet Community have described The Daily Mail as the “worst offender”.

The newspaper has recently run a series of sensationalist articles criticising emo fans, going so far as to describe them as “dangerous” to young people. The rest of us know that they’re really goth lite and quite nice too.

The march will take place on May 31 and will begin at Hyde Park’s West Pond before moving on through central London to the offices of The Daily Mail. My Chemical Romance’s ‘The Black Parade’ is likely to soundtrack march.

Emos... know thy enemy. Watch this pod, learn more about the Daily Mail and see what happened to one man who was curious to find out what the effects of reading nothing but the Daily Mail for a month would be.

Don't get sad, get emo!

This has been a long time coming,
Im glad it's finally happening!
I've had 2 letters published standing up for the subject of emo, the first being in the Daily Mail. I have had 2 phone interviews on the same subject as well. One of them being for the Independent tomorrow.
This is proof to me that people have started to take note on what is happening in youth culture and are prepared to listen to what a 14year-old has to say.

this is the stupidest thing i've ever read. no one cares if you like crappy music.

#6 jesssdfgh says:

why should it matter what music people listen to and most people commit suicide because of something that goes on at home or school but they dont want to tell anyone
but they dont want to have to live with it :(:(
i will support MCR to the end

look. i'm not a fan of emo by any stretch and think mcr suck some serious balls but let's be human here, guys. a girl died because of the music she likes? wtf is that? forget that it was emo. what if someone you knew got beaten up because they listened to built to spill, immortal technique or coldplay? wouldn't you be pissed?

people rip on today's generation for being apathetic. here's an instance where they standing up for something they believe in and i personally think it's a great thing.

This is not about emo or not emo. This is about a band who has overcome a lot of problems like depression and adictions and have made this band to make a change in the world. They have always made it very clear that if you have violent or suicidal thoughts you must ask for help. The problem is when someone who has just listened to one song by them blames them for something like this. You have to listen to their interviews or go to their shows to understand that the last thing they would do is pushing teenagers to suicide. 'I am not afraid to keep on living'. Hell yeah, very suicidal.

Isn't it ironic? Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays in the history. Do you know what is it about? Two teenagers who commit suicide for love. Amazing example, but however, noone ever blames Shakespeare for the suicide of a teenager.

You know why? Because it's not Shakespeare's fault. And it's definitely not My Chemical Romance's fault. You can ask a thousand fans of them, and at least a hundred will tell you that MCR SAVED THEIR LIVES. Literally. Cause they thought they couldn't find the way out until a rock band tought them that everybody has problems but still it's important to carry on. Tell me who the hell teachs them that stuff to kids in school. Noone. And noone gives them the example of overcoming an adiction. Or overcoming depression. That are subjects that no teacher or parent will teach them. Cause they rather pretend that everything is ok, pretend that it doesn't exists. It's easier that way.

My Chemical Romance are an inspiration, and an example. If they were in favour of suicide, they would have already commited suicide theirselves. Instead of pointing at people and blaming them, maybe we should start wondering why a girl feels so trapped and thinks so little of her own life to think that it's better to kill herself. I'll give you a clue: society is fucked up. Love it or leave it, but the media is ten times more responsable than any band. The family is ten times more resposable than any band. The people at her school are ten times more responsable than a band. The whole american dream of being ambicious and reaching your goles at any cost, steping on everybody's head to reach it if it's necesary. And being a perfect plastic doll, cause beauty and youth is all that counts, and if you are intelligent and funny and nice but you are a big girl you are screwed cause noone will want to date you or be your friend. Bullshit everywhere. Society is the problem. The whole people is the problem. And we still don't want to see it, and we want to have someone to blame. Cause it's much easier that way.

I agree with Lulu more then 110%

MCR helped me out alot when I was down. When I needed help or needed courage to speak to someone of my problems MCR was a band I could listen to and get the stregth I needed. They have helped millions of lives all over the gloab. They have never been in favour or ever suggest or given any hint they were ever in favour of suicide. There lyrics is full over incouraging helpful music, lyrics that suggest ways to get through your depression and way how to reach out. MCR has gone through rough times to get where they are today, the lead singer went through depression himself and got through it and he says music and the band was a huge help in getting him through his depression and he thought if that was how he got through his maybe he and his band could help others. They are all about saving and helping those that need helping and saving. If any of you including the family (which my thoughts go out to) have ever listened to MCR you would know this. They have a song intitled Famous Last Words In which the main Lyrics Is

"am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone"

The fact that this young girl hung herself is very disturbing. It's a sin that she only saw the outside of what MCR does. That is what many people do. I get more heckles about being "emo" just because I love and support their music. If only this young girl saw what this band is TRULY trying to get across, and that if she let him, Gerard would be a savior to her.

#16 Samara Jane says:

Im so behind this protest march, and i was totaly bumed out that i couldn't be there, as i think it is pure ignorance that the daily mail have pin pointed just one band -that are not even emo- and blamed them for the suicide of a young girl, this is wrong in so many ways!
I have been listening to then for about 2 or 3 years and have never cut myself, also with words like "...singing songs that make you slit your wrists, it isn't that much fun..." I think that writers should do more reseach on a topic before writting something so close and personal to a large number of people!!!!
