Yes, I'm so glad you put the Chris Cornell cover, not only does it suck but I also was VERY pissed when I got an email from his promo people the day after MJ's death telling me about Chris' "response" to the death (aka his lame tweet about it) and included his iTunes page. I was so fucking sick of people promoting their shit in light of someone's death.
Anyway, great concept of a post, very fitting.
The Alien Ant Farm & Fall Out Boy at least try to rock out as hard as MJ did; they remind me of the Rolling Stones's Motown covers from the '70s.
Chris Cornell & Ian Brown both make the mistake of forcing the song to be "soulful" and "profound". How stupid is that?
Boyzone, of course, should be left to pass without comment. Shameful.
Honestly, I agree with all but Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal. Their cover is actually a pretty kick-ass tribute to Jackson. They gave it that heavier edgier sound that it begged for. Not saying that it competes with the original but I'm saying I'm it was sanctioned by the King of Pop himself so... (He had executive input on content in the music video... or so I hear...)
C'mon the Alien ant farm remake was dope !!!!!!
I actually think Alien Ant Farm did a great job with "Smooth Criminal" and made an awesome video to it. I would imagine the other artists mentioned really sucked with their covers. Another bad cover that should be mentioned is "Faith" by Limp Bizkit and the recent remake of Wham's "Careless Whisper." You DONT mess with perfection!
