In what could possibly be the biggest music-related sob story of the year, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have lost a court battle to trademark their daughter, Blue Ivy’s name. Before you get too critical and say, “who cares?” the power couple were planning to profit off of the name by creating a line of baby clothes. The world will never be the same. Via NME:
Hip-hop’s golden couple wanted to trademark the name ‘Blue Ivy’ to launch a line of baby products shortly after the birth of their first child in January 2012, Boston Fox reports.
However, the owner of the Blue Ivy Events company based in Boston was forced to defend the name in court. Last week (Tuesday 16), a judge sided with the owner in defending her trademark, meaning that the Carters now have no legal right to the name.
