It should be no surprise, especially having seen folks like Amanda Palmer go off the plantation and make more income than they would see from any major or indie label record sales. However, busking never seemed to be a promising business model. It certainly has been the first step for many a musician—the Beebs is an alumni of the Canadian busking curriculum—but maybe this music journo thing isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. (Ed: it isn’t.)
Since 2008, Headwater has been busking on the BC Ferries system. As well as playing music, they cracked jokes and did their best to engage fellow passengers (a captive audience) in a way that made the trip enjoyable and fun for everyone.
