“It’s depressing to have a label come and tell you that [‘Guitar Hero’] is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music,” White said. He added that although he doesn’t try to dictate “which format people should get their music in…if you have to be in a video game to get in front of them, that’s a little sad.”

What's so sad about it? That they won't hear it on radio? Radio has been ruled by payola for years. Now the payola is getting through the use of songs in video games. Not sad, just a different avenue. And this guy has to admit that this format might get people interested in actually learning how to play an instrument. It's definitely more hands-on than listening to the radio.

Guy sounds like an old f***ing man at such a young age.

I'm not sure if it's more hands-on than the radio. When radio used to play good music, people LISTENED to the radio; now people PLAY video games. Ok, I'm an old fart and I've never played GH or Rock Band or whatever, so there's that. But c'mon, most people playing GH are just playing a game, with no intent to learn the instrument. And so they want familiar music . . . so let's cut the bullshit and stop pretending there's going to be an avalanche of inspiring recording artists that all came into being via GH

Guitar hero has and will continue to get kids into rock music. And to say it's not as hands on as radio is ridiculous, in addition to saying that Guitar hero is just comfort music. Radio is dedicated to playing one format, while these games span different sub-genres of rock music. There's a huge difference... and thats whats making kids pick up artists' CDs and perhaps even real instruments.
