Early this week, Jimmy Kimmel mocked Morrissey for refusing to appear on his show alongside the cast of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. Kimmel has since backed down ever so slightly and asked Morrissey to come back to sort out their differences. Via Pitchfork:
“I’ve found myself in a weird position. I’m in the middle of a celebrity feud with Morrissey… This has nothing to do with people who eat meat versus people who don’t,” he said. “I’m completely respectful of people who do not eat meat, but the statement he made is ridiculous.”
This dispute launched after Morrissey cancelled his “Kimmel” appearance Tuesday night because the cast of the A&E duck hunting-based reality show “Duck Dynasty” were also scheduled on the show. That launched a back-and-forth in which Morrissey railed on Kimmel, accusing him of making fun of gun control, depression, and obesity.
“I’d like to invite him to join the show to discuss,” Kimmel said. “I’m an open, even-handed person, and I consider all points of view… If I keep saying it, maybe it will be true. I’ve invited him to talk this out, and perhaps we will both be better men for it, but probably not.”
We’ll see how Morrissey responds. It’s worth noting the Moz isn’t known for burying the hatchet. He still hasn’t made up with former bandmate Johnny Marr, and has refused to play the entire country of Canada for the past seven years due to the annual Newfoundland seal hunt.
Still, maybe Jimmy Kimmel will be the exception.
