“I just couldn’t believe what was happening to Michael,” he said.

“I do believe it was foul play,” Jackson added. “I do believe that. Yes.”

Speaking amid floral tributes to the late King of Pop, Joe Jackson said he wanted to know why Michael Jackson died so suddenly. He added that a second autopsy on his late son commissioned by the Jackson family has yet to reveal any answers.

th
bq.. One of the few members of the Jackson family heard from since Michael’s death is his father, Joe.

Joe was the one who brought Michael into show business, but it came at a price. Allegations of mistreatment of the pop star as a child hounded Joe, leading to a strained relationship between the two men. Yet, Joe’s been doing most of the talking since Michael died.

In 1968, Michael Jackson debuted as a member of “The Jackson 5”—and his father was the driving force behind his kids’ overwhelming success.

CBS News consultant and Jackson biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli told CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy on “The Early Show” Tuesday, “There were times when Michael was a kid, and Joseph was a bully, and (it’s) safe to say it was probably abusive.”

But Joe denies the claim.

“I never beat him,” Joe is quoted as saying. “I whipped him with a stick and a belt. I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick.”

MTV:

Joe Jackson famously launched his sons, the Jackson 5, into superstardom, laying the groundwork for Michael Jackson’s legendary career. And, in a “Good Morning America” interview on Friday (July 10), the family patriarch seemed to think Michael’s children have bright futures in entertainment.

“I don’t know — I keep watching Paris,” he said, referring to Jackson’s middle child, who spoke memorably at her father’s memorial on Tuesday. “She… wants to do something. And as far as I can see, well, they say Blanket [Michael’s youngest child, Prince Michael II], he can really dance.”
