NY Daily News:

Identity thieves posed as the late grunge singer Kurt Cobain to buy a $3 million New Jersey mansion and may have looted his estate to the tune of $72 million, the Sun of London reported Saturday.

The Nirvana front man’s drug-addled widow, Courtney Love, told cops about the fraud last week and claims the scam artists obtained as many as 188 credit cards in Cobain’s name.

“It was fraud after fraud,” Love, 43, told the paper. “But nobody believed me until now.”

Love said she believes she knows the culprits. She stumbled onto the scam five years ago, but was too strung out to stop it, she told the paper.

Scotland on Sunday:

HE LIVED a life beset by tragedy and rock and roll excess, and now his misfortune has continued more than a decade after his death.

Identity fraudsters have stolen almost £40m from the estate of the late rock star, Kurt Cobain, who shot himself 14 years ago.

They used the former Nirvana frontman’s social security number to plunder his accounts.

Last night the singer’s widow, Courtney Love, said she had known for a while that thieves were helping themselves to the estate but no one believed her.

Investigators in the United States say the thieves took £36m in cash from a trust fund set up for Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean, who is 14 years old. The gang is understood to have used Cobain’s personal details to take out credit cards and write cheques in Love’s name.

Investigators have uncovered evidence that the gang stole a further £1.6m to buy luxury cars and a mansion.

Love says she knows who is behind the frauds and has brought in a team of private investigators and forensic accountants to track them down. She said: “Taking a child’s money and future is a really horrible thing.”

The Sun:

“I knew it had been going on since when I went cuckoo — bananas — in 2003.

It was fraud after fraud. But nobody believed me until now. I did a check on my deceased husband’s social security number and he has a house in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He bought it last year.

I would like to know how. He should probably get his a** back home if that is the case.”

"Yeah, I took out the credit cards to maintain the same lifestyle that Kurt provided me... I mean, please find the dark-skinned thieves that ruined my daughter's future."

She might as well have said that.

This c*nt is way to "jokey" with this subject. I mean, if this happened to me I might just have a bit more rage in my soul for those who did this.

Seems a bit dubious to me. Usually when someone passes away, the credit bureaus are notified and the credit file is closed.

KIDDING RIGHT?New Brunswick house that cost 3 millions??lol..that's hilarius. Really Courtney has a talent of making things up..She spend her daughter's money in clothes, rocks and drugs and now makes up all these ridiculous stories.I live in Jersey all my life, NOT EVEN A PROPERTY IN THE SIZE OF DISNEYLAND would cost that much in Brunswick..We all know what a money craving person Courtney is..She's making a fool herself telling stories like that..God!

If I knew like "she say's" it'd be nipped in the bud instantly!!!
that is really sad/slow minded...to not cancel it?! how many people must be really whacked out to let this get this far? i really hope the daughter has a chance to be herself, since both parents never have...but alas she proably never will...what a waste of time & life.

Remember folks....You only live once
sounds like a burnt out excuse for shopping!

...take your pills and light a roach...honest mommy...it'll be better & all gone in the morning...yea!!!

Identity fraud is getting out of hand. My sister had her ss# stolen before she turned 18! And it wasn't discovered until 3 years later when all these consolidated loans arrived at my parents house. The robbers made it look like they were her and moved from back to where we live now. And they went through a terrible time trying to clear my sister's name and credit. And the identity thieves were not caught apparently the smaller time ones move from place to place like gypsies. The police were alerted and then all this paperwork from hell started. It is really odd how people's identitys are taken so easily; it never happened 10 years ago like today

If it's true, then we have some of the dumbest salespeople on the planet in the USA. "We'd love to sell you this beautiful house Mr Cobain, just sign on the line."

Who wouldn't know who Kurt Cobain is, and who wouldn't know he's dead? Perhaps not the salesperson, but a whole string of people that would have to approve the sale wouldn't know about it? C'mon, it just seems silly.

If I had to guess, she probably gave her drug dealers access to the accounts for drug trades. That's what me thinks.

As much as I dislike Courtney Love that is still that little girls mom and you really should have a little more respect.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing that anyone could get away with using his credit card and social security number for that long. Everyone know who he is. I mean, maybe you could get lucky once...twice maybe. But since at least 2003? No fucking way.
My opinion? He's still alive. DOn't believe me? Check out my site.

I absolutely love Kurt Cobain's legacy...he was a true artist, but sometimes the pain of this world is too much for someone as sensitive as he...Although Kurt was a strong, brilliant human being, there was something so fragile as it was beautiful within him...Courtney was his balance, he said time after time that he was in love with her, and she obviously admits to going bananas after he died, it takes a toll...too bad that legacy has to be used in such a way that a child is robbed of the memory of her father and the future he built for her...
