LCD Soundsystem mainman James Murphy has revealed he has written the band’s next album, quashing rumours that the band were unlikely to return following the release of 2007’s ‘Sound Of Silver’.

The producer/solo artist told NME.COM that he has penned eight songs for the album, which will be the third LCD effort, and is keeping the tracks under lock and key – in his head.

“When I start recording I don’t tell anyone not even my manager,” he said, possibly explaining some recent reports where live LCD Soundsystem guitarist Al Doyle claimed the group were finished. “I’ll go away for a month to a studio outside the city [New York] and do it.”

News has surfaced that it might all be over for the hugely influential LCD Soundsystem.

Al Doyle, who plays guitar for US dance act LCD Soundsystem (and is also in Hot Chip) told BBC 6Music (reported in full here) that “I don’t think James is going to do anything more under that name [LCD Soundsystem]. I think he’d like to do something with the same personnel possibly next year.”

Doyle goes on to reveal “We were thinking of doing something where we find a lot of the old disco singers in New York that might still be around from the 70s, and get them in as guest vocalists with LCD as a backing band, and tour around as a disco heroes style show… It’s just an idea that we had. God knows if we’ll make it happen.”

Wow. The greatest band since the Clash shutting its doors? Tell me it's not so! I asked a friend once why was LCD better than their dance rock brethren and friend responded, "Because James Murphy writes great lyrics and great beats." Touche. Please let this be wrong...

it's not true

totally not true. re-read the bbc piece. all it says is james is making a disco record with people he has been making music with for 4 years. not too shocking. might be pretty good too.
weirdly, the NME set them straight!

and that thing about Hockey Night is not true either. they got signed to DFA and James produced their new record. might be pretty good too.
