DEEP SPACE NYC presents…

MARY ANNE HOBBS [BBC Radio 1, UK]
FRANÇOIS K [Deep Space, NYC]

François K welcomes the undisputed first lady of bass to Deep Space: Mary Anne Hobbs. Regarded as bass music’s cultural ambassador, she is responsible for bringing innovative electronic sounds to all corners of the globe via her influential Radio 1 Experimental show on the BBC, curation of her own stage at Sonar festival in Barcelona, as well as three definitive compilations of forward-thinking electronic music on Planet Mu. Mary Anne was a key figure in breaking the dubstep sound globally, beginning with her foundational Dubstep Warz special on BBC in early 2006, featuring mixes from the bubbling scene’s pioneers. In the years following she has continued to display her fierce passion for hunting down and exposing true electronic talent, with an uncanny ability to traverse genres and sub-genres while maintaining a sense of the spirit that connects them.

XLR8R 4/28/10:

Like many artists and DJs from across the pond, DJ and tastemaker Mary Anne Hobbs got stuck in the US last week due to that pesky volcano eruption in Iceland. But instead of sulking, Hobbs is using her unexpected extra time in America as an opportunity to showcase some of LA’s best beat talents. She will be producing and broadcasting her next two radio shows from Los Angeles, with today’s edition titled “Volcano Refugee Party.” Featuring 20-minute back-to-back sets from Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Ras G, Tokimonsta, Teebs, and TAKE, the show will prove that no natural disaster can keep the UK’s “first lady of bass” down. Next week’s show will be titled the “City Of Angels Special,” and beatmakers like Matthew David, The Gaslamp Killer, Samiyam, Daddy Kev, and Nosaj Thing are expected to come through. Check out all the pertinent details regarding time zones and streaming capabilities on Hobbs’ BBC site.
