It’s called Orion, and it will be held at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a place Lars Ulrich referred to as having “a lot of fuck-off space.” During the livestream, James Hetfield said the fest is in tribute to Cliff Burton, Metallica’s former bassist who passed away in 1986—“Orion” refers to the song off Master of Puppets which features a massive solo from Burton. Tickets will be $150 and $175.

They’ve announced 16 of the 22 bands that will be playing (via the festival’s website):

Arctic Monkeys

Avenged Sevenfold

Modest Mouse

The Gaslight Anthem

Cage The Elephant

Fucked Up

Best Coast

Hot Snakes

Titus Andronicus

Gary Clark Jr.

Roky Erickson

The Black Angels

The Sword

A Place to Bury Strangers

the Quietus had these words to share:

The line-up resembles nothing more than a cross between the second stage at Reading five years ago and a mad woman’s breakfast.

There’s something about this line-up that makes even the good bands sound totally shit.

We are fully expecting a second stage featuring OK GO, +44, Emmy The Great, Mumford And Sons, Yuck and The Decemberists to be announced any minute now…

What we do know: a two-day Metallica festival is set for June 22 & 23 June 23rd and 24th in Atlantic City, and due to be announced this afternoon. Many bands are playing.

What we don’t know: everything else. We will update as soon as we find out more information. An announcement is set for 2PM EST, today—and we’re pretty sure it concerns the Atlantic City festival…
