Iggy and the Stooges will return April 30th with a new LP, titled Ready to Die, on Fat Possum . This will be their first reunited effort since 1973’s classic, Raw Power. The line-up will consist of James Williamson on guitar, Scott Asheton on drums, and Mike Watt filling in for the late Ron Asheton on Bass. Judging by the following statement, Pop’s edge is well-intact, via press release.

“My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It’s just a pig-headed fucking thing I have that a real fucking group when they’re an older group they also make fucking records. They don’t just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of fucking money…”

Hmm, could Iggy be alluding to someone in particular? Apparently, Pop isn’t a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Via Spin:

He then proceeded to criticize Billy Corgan, for some reason. “This is not the fucking Smashing Pumpkins, you know, we’ve got the bald guy and whoever,” he continues, with a laugh. “The Stooges are a real group.” To be fair, the Smashing Pumpkins did release a new album last year, Oceania. Maybe Iggy is thinking of Pavement? Is this what hanging out with Ke$ha will do to you?

Ok, getting a little hard to follow, but we’re still onboard. Watch the interview with the proto-punk god below.
