It has been a strong year for mixtapes and sounds from the big fertile area known as bass. Stefan Nickum’s work as The Crooked Clef fuses these two trends. Three of the mixtapes in his “Trash In The Bassment” series are available at his MySpace page; all are swift, varied, well-curated and reliable delivery systems of pleasure. It is hard to imagine why anyone would pay for music right now. Not that you shouldn’t.
