Curt Smith on Huff Post:

As a proud supporter of Barack Obama I’m pleased and relieved that the primary fight is nearly over and we can move on to the real issues of a fall campaign.

To give you some background, I have lived legally and paid taxes in the US for close to twenty years now but have just last year become a naturalized citizen. I now have a vote and I intend to use it.

Voting in a democracy is the time in each political cycle, local or national, where every person’s voice carries the same weight. My one vote counts just as much as George Bush’s one vote. It’s the one single thing that makes the US a democracy.

That having been said, I’d like to share the reasoning behind my support of Senator Obama….

Good for Curt...

I have loved the music that Tear's for Fears has brought to the table. Few people forget that they were trailblazers in the USA during the release of "Songs from the big chair".

They were an alternative band that did not have major radio station air play support until "Everybody wants to rule" was released as a single. After that, it suddenly became cool to play alternative music and the Classic Rock format strong-hold on American FM radio stations slowly started to crumble.

This paved the path for other well meaning artists, I remember being shocked to hear Elvis Costello played on WEBN in Cincinnati, OH. I new there and then at that moment alternative music was here to stay!

I welcome Curt Smith as a US citizen, and I concur with his endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for the President of the USA.

It's time to Barack-N-Roll!

PS - I know Elvis Costello is an older act than "Tear's for Fears", but his success in the US was not as large at the time as TFF's and for the most part, he still remained part of the underground alternative music scene longer.
