From a recent interview with Classic Rock Mag:
“Well, I’m getting a new guitar player as we speak,” said Ozzy, “and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, ‘Get Johnny 5!’ And I tried him at one time and I didn’t really give him a chance. We’ll see, I don’t know. I haven’t fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk’s got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society. I just felt like I wanted a change, y’know?

Knowing the relationship these two musicians have had, I find it extremely hard to believe that Ozzy didn't say anything to Zakk regarding getting a new guitarist.

According to what I've read, Ozzy wanted a change in musical direction, stating that with Zakk, (parapharsing) "...the music started sounding too much like BLS and it was time to try something different..." and, at least to me, that was true. The music was starting to sound like BLS with Ozzy on vocals.

Nothing wrong with BLS - some of the heaviest shit I've ever heard, but that style of music isn't Ozzy. And let's face it - Ozzy has been known to change guitarists like most people change their shoes - so this isn't that surprising, to me at least.

I'm thinking that with the history between both Ozzy and Zakk that they'll do something together again. Hopefully the time off from each other will allow both to explore some new stuff and then when the time is right, they'll join forces once again and make the music that both are capable of making, especially in light of Zakk's recent sobriety and I wish him nothing but the best for the future.

Cheers!
