Rick Astley responds to the Rickroll: 'It's a pop song...It doesn’t have any kind of weight behind it...maybe that’s the irony'
NYT:
It is not clear what Mr. Astley himself thinks about rickrolling. He has not spoken publicly about the meme and efforts to reach him through his agent were unsuccessful. But it has surely renewed attention on his career at a beneficial time. He is planning a tour through England along with other ’80s pop stars.
“I think it’s just one of those odd things where something gets picked up and people run with it,” Astley said. “But that’s what brilliant about the Internet.”
“If this had happened around some kind of rock song, with a lyric that really meant something—a Bruce Springsteen, “God bless America” ... or an anti-something kind of song, I could kind of understand that,” Astley said. “But for something as, and I don’t mean to belittle it, because I still think it’s a great pop song, but it’s a pop song; do you know what I mean? It doesn’t have any kind of weight behind it, as such. But maybe that’s the irony of it.”

Hey Me That's Who
that link you posted is broken.
rick astley = brilliant pop tunes
wow, even astley himself is astonished with what we anonymous have done.
I'm not falling for it, Leopold.
You want me to Rickroll myself? Not!
heh. damn. :-)
Your wrong Rick the words do have weight behind them.
Its the chorus "never gonna give you up etc."
It oozes comitment from a guy to his girl the rest of the lyrics swing another way but the "never gonna give you" is what every girl wants to hear and its a nice tune!
