Famed rock-and-roll guitarist and longtime Ann Arbor resident Ronald “Ron” Asheton was found dead in his home on the city’s west side this morning, police said.

Asheton, 60, was an original member of The Stooges, a garage-rock band headlined by Iggy Pop and formed in Ann Arbor in 1967.

Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton was found dead early today in his Ann Arbor home.
His personal assistant contacted police late Monday night after being unable to reach Asheton for days, Detective Bill Stanford said.

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to Ron's family and friends. He will be deeply missed and was a highly underrated guitarist.

Ron was dismissed by the industry ONLY because the Stooges didn't fit the cookie cutter mold that the industry demands of it's "artists" then, and sadly, today still.

In a music landscape once filled with the fresh air of the Stooges, MC5 and the like, the passing of Ron Ashton leaves a void that is now filled once again the fetid and musty air from the heaping piles of fucking "indie" bands and Jay Z/Radiohead mashup excrement.

R.I.P. Mr. Ashton. You are now, and will be forever missed. God Speed to you...

Ron Asheton was the white Hendrix, which is a funny-ass thing to write, but true... R.I.P. to the greatest rock guitarist in my world.
