The Roots dump Fall Out Boy track from new album: 'It was just sticking out like a sore thumb'
Drummer and co-producer Ahmir ”?uestlove” Thompson tells Billboard.com that the track, “Birthday Girl,” has been bumped simply because it does not fit the tone of what he calls “the most incendiary, political album of our career to date.”
“It was just sticking out like a sore thumb,” Thompson says of “Birthday Girl,” which was built from an idea that’s been around since sessions for the Roots’ 2004 album “The Tipping Point.” “Initially it was going to kick-start the record… but then that didn’t work. Then we were going to have a ‘halftime’ thing where it was gonna come in the middle of the record as a break from the political thing, but that didn’t work, either.

I just hope this won't negatively affect FOB's Nordstrom deal. Because I love FOB. And I love Nordstrom. Because I'm punk rock.
This message made my day.
I am not a biggest fan of "the roots" but at the same time i sincerely hate those emo-suckers. They must be most overrated "band" of '00s. And the fact that they made cover of "Rolling Stone" still hurts me. I hope this trend will go on and they all end up in some reality show on VH1 for celebrities that are no longer celebrities.
shiiiiiiit...i haven't seen the previous comment. I feel really sorry for you "not a bad song". How could you call it a "punk music"?
Sid Vicious is going to raise from the dead and kick your ignorant ass for saying so.
I have not checked out the newer release by the Roots, but I can respect Ahmir's vibe on this... Music, if not anything, must remain true and honest. Dare I say, at it's roots, that's what music is all about! (Pun intended)

It's sick. I don't get why their lameass label isn't pimping their new material. Fallout Boy doesn't deserve to be on the same planet as these guys.
This is the BEST NEWS EVER. I was hyped off of the first two songs they made videos for...then when I heard "Birthday Girl," I swore never to buy this album.
Everything else is sounding gritty and raw, and that song would have ruined it.
And I fucking hate The Roots, anyway.
Great move.
Ditto, Rob! (on the BEST NEWS EVER part, not the hating the Roots parts). Yea!
