No, they weren’t filming a sequel to Spaceballs. Snoop Dogg was in town to unveil two new sneakers from Adidas Originals’ X Star Wars collection. The eccentric troop started their walk at the Foot Locker on 45th Street at 9:30 a.m. and arrived at the Adidas Originals store on Wooster Street near Houston just around 11:30 a.m., where a long line of anxious fans were waiting to get their hands on the new, intergalactic goods. “It felt good, you know, like I was top dog,” Snoop said about the procession.
In true science-fiction style, the big reveal of both the Yoda boat shoe and the Skywalker sneaker (retailing for $125 and $100, respectively) was a dramatic spectacle: a fog machine gave the store’s interior an atmospheric haze and the front face of the building opened up like a huge garage door. The vapor lifted to reveal Snoop and the battalion positioned next to the new kicks and posing—with a life-size R2-D2—for pictures. “The Yodas are dope. Actually, the whole collection is fly,” said the rapper about which pair he might be rocking in the near future, perhaps while promoting his new movie, due out in March, or his upcoming album “More Malice N Wonderland,” a remix of his last.
