Syntax Music:

After over 10 years and countless records, Syntax is closing its doors.

Digital distribution, closing stores, a weak dollar, a poor economy and the rising cost of every aspect of distributing vinyl have brought us to an end.

We’re all very sad here as this has been our passion and livelihood for as long as we’ve been “adults”, but the time has come to move on.

It has been a pleasure to deal with you (almost all of you!)

This Friday, January 11th will be our last day. Our phones are no longer working so if you need to contact anyone here please e-mail [xxx]

Best of luck with all your endeavors.

Sincerely,

The Syntax Crew

Syntax Music is a completely separate company from Syntax Records and Syntax Distribution... There is no relation.

no company without a plan to tap into the digital market can survive, syntax is a perfect example. they should have branched out years ago and distributed their labels digitally.

I'll concur with #3.

Reminds me a million years ago (early 90's) of when typefaces started going digital (and became as they are now known, 'fonts').
The photo-typesetting houses that had smarts became service bureaus (pre-press, film output etc) and the ones that decided to act like high and mighty dinosaurs, ignoring the impending comet, died like dinosaurs.

Vinyl is dead guys. you can cry little black plastic tears into your slipcover mats all night but it won't change the inevitable, despite how many 'vinyl sees resurgence' headlines pop up.

Syntax Music Distribution was an excellent distributor. I will greatly miss incredible people like Jeremy and Chris.
We (ABM from Canada) wish we could have given Syntax Music more business. We still very strongly beleive that records; especially 12" singles, will continue to be extremely important to real djs and discotheque programmers.
Any former Syntax employees are welcome to contact us at e___cain@sympatico.ca
