I think they’re just looking for any excuse not to sell CDs at all. Fuse:
Target found itself in a slight controversy earlier today when Odd Future manager Christian Clancy wrote, and subsequently deleted, a tweet intimating that the retail behemoth would not carry OF member Frank Ocean’s debut album Channel Orange in part because the R&B singer came out last week.
“Target has refused to carry Franks album due to iTunes exclusive,” Clancy tweeted. “Interesting since they also donate to non equal rights organizations.”
When asked for comment, a Target spokesperson told Fuse that the company’s policy was to not offer CDs if the artist had already released their album digitally prior to its official release date. Ocean released Channel Orange unexpectedly on iTunes Monday night.
“At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are realized digitally in advance of the street date,” said the spokesperson. Asked for clarification, the spokesperson confirmed that Target’s policy included Channel Orange.
