?uestlove: 'Christgau is the last true-blue record critic on earth'... producing Tom Jones next...
Westword’s Backbeat Online blog has a great, in-depth interview with Ahmir ”?uestlove” Thompson today with these two great nuggets:
AT: Christgau is the last true-blue record critic on earth. He gave us an A-plus. That’s pretty much who I make my records for. He’s like the last of that whole Lester Bangs generation of record reviewers, and I still heed his words. He gets my vision, and I’m cool with that. But half these people, they read Pitchfork, and they base half their opinion and quotes on that.
WW: Now do you think you’re going to have every surviving soul star from the ‘70s knocking on your door and saying, “Can you do this for me, too?”
AT: Hell, yes. This is my equivalent of putting my apple pie on the windowsill and enticing the whole neighborhood to come over. Absolutely. Tom Jones is next.
WW: Seriously? Tom Jones is next?
AT: Yeah, we’ve got a meeting with Tom Jones in July. And we have a meeting with Al Jarreau.

Asshole.
Christgau gave that album an A PLUS???? It's a good album, but does it compare to the WHITE ALBUM? Or SOUND OF SILVER? And where is Christgau writing this shit anyway?
What about me?
so an artist states he likes a critic's view of his band and that is cause for alarm? get a grip.
He gave them an A... http://music.msn.com/music/consumerguide
i thought christgau was killed by thurston's big fucking dick?
@ Steven Patrick Morrissey:
It wouldn't be that big of a deal if he didn't take a cheap shot at pitchfork readers on the basis that they don't 'get' his music like christgau does. ?uestlove seems to think that if people 'got' what he was trying to do, they'd give all his band's albums high marks.
It doesn't work like that.
since when is Questlove meeting with Al Jarreau? Make it happen!
