Headlines
After bad news last month, the loss of longtime film critic J. Hoberman earlier this year, sex trafficking accusations and other substantial problems besides, the Village Voice and its parent company Village Voice Media continue their downward slide. This tweet was sent by Music Editor Maura Johnston earlier today:
well it’s my last day at the village voice. it’s been fun. thanks to @harvilla and @xzachbaronx and @voicetonyo for believing in me.

While Editor-in-Chief Tony Ortega is also out, as he explained in a blog post:
I’ve decided to take advantage of this moment to change directions. Next week will be my last as editor of the Voice; I will be leaving to pursue a book proposal about Scientology in its time of crisis.
Update: The departing editor gets her much-deserved props:
@maura sorry to hear it. you will go on to better things. is anyone left at the voice?

All it takes is one visit to the current Idolator to realize that you get rid of @maura at your own peril. You fucked up, Village Voice.
