The murder trial of dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel has been pushed back yet again. Kartel is accused of participating in the 2011 murder of associate Clive “Lizard” Williams following a dispute about missing guns. Via Examiner:
The trial was originally supposed to start in November, but was postponed after Kartel’s lawyer was unavailable. This time, the trial was pushed back due to a lack of jurors. Kartel has been in pre-trial custody for more than 16 months.
According to Urban Islandz, a close source to Kartel spoke to the incarcerated deejay following the latest delay. The source said Kartel told him, “The system a try break me but mi stand firm in the belief of the almighty.” The source added, “They keep putting off the case because they know Addi innocent and they probably want find more things to charge him with.”
On Wednesday, Michael Dawson, the co-author of Kartel’s book, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto took to Kartel’s official Twitter page to 'set di ting straight,’ about the deejay’s prison situation, amongst other topics. According to Dawson, Kartel is 'in good spirits when I last visited him. Staying away from meat right now. Praying, meditating reading Garvey. Faith tun up.’
The trial is now expected to get underway on May 27, although at this point, who knows?
