Morrissey has been all over the place in the past couple of weeks – almost getting Coachella to go full veg, coming to the aid of a stricken book reader – which he’s capped off (or just begun, since he’ll be all over America for the next two months) by paying a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to play Frankie Valli’s “To Give Is the Reason I Live” (which he’s been doing all year) and “You Have Killed Me” from his 2006 record Ringleader of the Tormentors. Morrissey also spoke to Billboard, saying he doesn’t see a major label future for himself, although he has no plans to quit, either.
I’ve held fast, but I now accept that the newer songs – which actually aren’t that new anymore – will only ever exist in the YouTube domain. Do I see myself receiving a grown-up recording offer from a label of stature and power? No. I have a better chance of being hit by lightning.
