The NFL will not confirm the reports and The Who released an announcement on their website stating:
“Rumours circulating that The Who are going to play at the Superbowl in Miami in February are pure speculation.”
NEW YORK (Billboard) – The Who will perform at Superbowl XLIV, marking the British band’s first performance in North America since 2008. According to a report on SI.com, the Sports Illustrated website, the veteran band will take the stage during the halftime show of the 2010 National Football League championship game, scheduled for February 7 in Miami. The NFL has yet to officially confirm the report, saying, “When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it.”
The Who will perform during halftime at this year’s Super Bowl, according to reports. The band, led by surviving members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, are all set for Super Bowl XLIV Feb. 7 in Miami, according to Sports Illustrated. The NFL hasn’t confirmed the booking, saying only that, “When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it.”...But the choice of the renowned British rockers makes sense, since CBS uses Who songs as intros for all three of its “CSI” shows: “Who Are You” (“CSI”), “Baba O’Riley” (“CSI: NY”) and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” (“CSI: Miami”).
