Jimmy Iovine hasn’t made too many bad moves in his career, being the head of the prolific Interscope/Shady/Aftermath behemoth and now, with his successful hocking of high-end headphones to the masses with Beats by Dre. However, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Iovine announced that he would be spearheading a new music subscription service called Daisy, but he believes that his careful eye for curation will beat out the tech-guys for a piece of the pie. Via All Things:

I was shocked at how culturally inept most consumer electronics companies are. And what I also learned is that you can build Facebook, you can build YouTube, you can build Twitter — you can be a tech company and do that. But those [sites] program themselves. Subscription needs a programmer. It needs culture. And tech guys can’t do that. They don’t even know who to hire. They’re utilities.

Could Iovine warrant a Willy Wonka meme for his new venture? Only time will tell, but given his track record, Iovine just may pull it off.
