You’ve heard about all the show cancellations due to Hurricane Sandy brewing on the East Coast, but how much damage will the storm do to the live entertainment industry? Via Billboard:
Besides potential property damage, which is typically covered by property insurance, promoters and venues are looking at the prospect of millions of dollars in lost marketing and promotion expenses in some of the most expensive media markets in the country. For them, and artists, profits could also slip away, or at least be deferred until a later date.
But honestly, how punk would it be if an act just did their show anyway in the middle of a hurricane? Forget about fighting the “man,” who’s willing to take on Mother Nature?
Disclaimer: Please do not go out in the middle of a hurricane and attempt to combat the storm with power chords. Sandy only respects virtuosos. Steve Vai?
