Peter still Hooked on the Hacienda

TDS Editors

BBC:

“I like that because I gave them permission to use the name, because I own the name. If it had been a club and it’d carried on, it would have been like seeing your girlfriend out with somebody else.

It was the club that inspired a musical generation, defined a scene, and put dance music firmly on the map in the UK. Although the old site on Whitworth Street, Manchester has now been replaced with a block of flats, the feeling and energy behind the Hacienda, and those heady early days, will live on forever.

As the cornerstone of UK dance music , the Hacienda gave house music an identity, a soul and a hone. Its success ensured there were many spin offs and carbon copies, but few nights really summed up the originality and freshness of The Hacienda.

Now celebrating 25 years since this musical institution opened its doors for the first time, some of the original Hacienda cast and crew come together for a musical reunion of the highest order.

Peter Hook, Graeme park , Justin Robertson, Andrew Wetherall, Todd Terry are just some of the names included on the Hacienda celebration tour. Here are some of the pioneers and leading lights of the UK House Music phenomenon take to the decks to pay homage to a club which moved a nation and inspired a million bedroom Djs.

For those who experienced the Hacienda the first time round, this tour is a great chance to say thanks for the memories. For others not so fortunate, this represents another opportunity to hear the music by the Djs who rocked it first time round.

We are very pleased to let you know that we are bringing The Hacienda across the Atlantic this March.

We hear that the “Party People” who attend the Winter Music Conference, are quite hedonistic, and last well beyond 24 hours!

We’ve written a few chapters on this ourselves over the years, and we look forward to writing yet another, with you, on this special night we are planning.

To begin our Manchester to Miami mission, we are going back to the roots of where this all began for many of us.

BBC:

“So it is quite nerve-wracking, but again, when you pull it off, you’ve got that wonderful eruption of giving people a top night. I like annoying people as well, so I throw some crap in that really annoys them, and then bring it back by playing Blue Monday or something like that. I do like to have a bit of fun at people’s expense in a way that New Order have never done.”
