How can you make end of year lists when the year isn't over?

#2 jeff says:

magazines have three month lead times. that's how. you gotta make the end of year lists to get folks out to the store to buy the albums so record labels don't go out of business. i think the records left to come out this year will all do well on their own without the aid of Blender and Paste.

She & Him to PASTE magazine: "Sure, we'll be on your cover several months after our mediocre album came out. But you have to make us Album of the Year, okay? And you have to try and make sure Zooey doesn't look so frumpy. She's not getting any younger."
