So Me gallery show opens in Toronto with 22 Pedro Winter portraits

TDS Editors

So Me’s first North American gallery show opened at Toronto’s Studio Gallery last week, and the prints on display include a series of 22 different portraits of ED Banger Records boss Pedro Winter (aka Busy P). Pedro even peeks out of the two Justice portraits too.

National Post:

“He’s just such a goofy and likeable guy and very recognizable,” says So Me. “I wanted to make him into a caricature, like a Ronald McDonald or a Mickey Mouse.”

Busy P, who didn’t know the show was going to be all about him, is treating Ed Banger like an artist collective, and by hiring So Me as the label’s art director, is bringing back the value of owning an album.

“If you look at Factory records [Joy Division and New Order’s label] and their relationship with Peter Saville, they didn’t just put out records, they put out artwork,” says Busy P. “And having the artwork has definitely improved record sales. Now you are buying something that’s worth it, even though you can get it online for free.”

The prints and a catalog are for sale at the gallery and online. Here’s a few pictures:
