Blur Drummer Becomes Labor Party Firebrand...

Todd Roberts

The interweb’s been all a buzz with news of a Blur original-member reunion in Hyde Park this summer after a 9-year hiatus. And while we’re as happy as the next Brit-Popper to see Graham Coxon and Damon Albarn reunite, we were far more surprised to see what Blur drummer Dave Rowntreee has been up to since the split: Rowntree is representing the Labor Party in the next general election in the cities of London and Westminster, against the Conservative MP Mark Field. And it’s not his first time running. Last year Rowntree lost to the Tories for the traditionally conservative Marylebone High Street seat on the Westminster City Council.

Rowntree’s political promo spot from last year:

Rowntree interviewing Prime Minister Gordon Brown about the future of the U.K.s Creative Industries (we Americans have no idea what that means).
