The Daily Swarm's Must See Videos of the Week: Deerhoof, CWL, Hawnay Troof, 50, Marina and the Diamonds...

Deerhoof “Purple Past”
Deerhoof’s latest video is a simple series of visual and auditory representations of the various formats/speakers/settings in which you could be listening to their song. It’s especially interesting as we all bitch/compare notes/predict what aural format will be/should be/isn’t most popular. The fidelity of vinyl vs. CD vs. MP3 is on stark display. Interestingly, a CD listened to through a DVD player in a lovely modern room is not that amazing soundwise but the actual setting makes it seem better. Same for a boombox outdoors. Computer speakers sound kinda shitty anywhere.
50 Cent “I’ll Do Anything”
If 50 Cent will do anything then I’d like to give him a little fashion tip: do not wear one luxury brand with logos out head to toe, uniform style in all the same color. These days we like to mix it up – we pair our Target pieces with our Marc Jacobs pieces and mush it all around so we don’t look like a soldier billboard for Louis Vuitton. You get one piece of clothing with labels out. One. Otherwise you’re just…sad looking.
Cassettes Won’t Listen “Quickly Approaching”
Maybe it’s just where I am in life, but my take away from this video was don’t stick your Play-Doh handle into the machine cos the machine will chop it right off. An allegory for why The Clash would never make it on a major label today…unless they were called “Green Day.”
Marina and the Diamonds “I’m Not A Robot”
Guess what? I totally love videos that are entirely about the make-up.
Hawnay Troof “Moopjaw”
Hawnay Troof does lo-fi psychedelic dance party videos better than anyone you know. He’s kind of like Har Mar Superstar without the terrible credibility issues.
