everyone should also check out this mix-tape - it's a great compliment for the video piece and includes many of the bands that I also wish were included in the piece....

There were just too many bands doing similar things to not address this in a more comprehensive way and it compliments and fills out the video piece nicely. I put a lot of effort into the mix and really hope it leads people toward this scene. Enjoy!
also - here is the accompanying written piece...

oh mtv. you are so hip now.
Jay Reatard is that garage guy you're supposed to fuck with and throw bottles at while he's playing, right?
who's the assclown with the cheap plastic sunglasses?
Chris, it is very cool of you to bless Swarm readers with the muxtape. It is also cool to see your comments here, and your passion for this emerging sound/scene. Congrats!
Ha! I wouldn't be surprised if the music industry soon laps onto the trend. Imagine how much less they could pay their musicians. The music industry gobbled up and homogenized hip-hop because it was centered on the DJ and they didnt have to pay session musicians. They hyped to death the white horse of "electronica" because it would they'd only have to pay the producer. With lo-fi, they wont even have to hire a producer or pay the band. They'll just have to rent a van to "keep it real".
here's a downloadbable version of that muxtape that's been floating around
